Like any other normal day, I got up this morning and turned to my phone to read the verse of the day. The scripture was one that I had read a million times before, but this time it felt a little different.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.”
After reading the scripture, I immediately started to think about LOM &MOY and my inadequacies and weaknesses as an entrepreneur. I asked, “God, what am I supposed to do? You’ve given me this vision, but I don’t feel ready or equipped at all to accomplish something this big.”
The weekend before, I had a conversation with a friend about my imposter syndrome getting the best of me and she reminded me of how Moses felt ill-equipped as well when God gave him a leadership position while being fully aware of his speech impediment. This also made think of Esther when Mordecai was encouraging her to speak up on behalf of her people.
Esther 4: 14 (NIV) “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
When God calls us to be obedient, He doesn’t force us to do His will. He kindly invites us into His story. In Esther 4: 14, Mordecai is not saying that Esther has to speak up, but he is clear that even if she doesn’t take action “relief and deliverance for the Jews WILL arise from another place”. God doesn’t need us. If He called you, and you decline, He will call someone else, and His plan will still be done.
There are so many instances in the Bible when God calls people and along the way they forget they were called and begin to promote their own agendas. And God's response - He choses someone else. At one point, King Saul was chosen. Samuel tells Saul time and time again to be obedient to the Lord, but he continues to do His own thing. As a result of his disobedience, David was anointed to replace him and the will of God is still accomplished.
In my calling to LOM & MOY, I have repeatedly been disobedient and paralyzed by fear and my own inadequacies. I don’t want to miss what God has for me in this life. I know that this journey will take courage, boldness, faith and obedience to His will even when I don’t fully understand it. Today, I'm trusting that if God called me to it, then He will bring me through it – one step of obedience at a time.
How are you trusting God with all your heart in this season?
